Southwest District Livestock Show
Feb. 14-18, 2012
Grady Co. Fairgrounds

The show is open to any 4-H and FFA member age 9-18 in the Southwest Agricultural Education District in Oklahoma. Those counties include: Beckham, Caddo, Canadian, Comanche, Cotton, Custer, Grady, Greer, Harmon, Jackson, Kiowa, Roger Mills,
Tillman, and Washita. All other counties are ineligible.

$2.00 will assist in the set-up, electricity, and facility usage. $1.00 will be for judges. The remainder of the entry fee will be returned to the top ½ of each class.

Pre-registration is required postmarked Feb. 1. Entries must be paid in school check, cashier check, or money order. NO CASH & NO PERSONAL CHECKS. Late fees will be paid in cash.

A late fee will be assessed at the show of $43.00 for swine, goats and sheep, $63.00 for Beef.

Grand, Reserve Grand, and Bronze Champions will be paid as followed with guaranteed Money:

In addition, each Grand, Reserve Grand, and Bronze Champion will receive
Tag furnished by The Sign Farm.

All Breed Champions will receive an additional $25 and a duffle bag. All
Reserve Breed Champions will receive $15 and a duffle bag.

Each class will have a showmanship winner and will receive a cap.

Please help everyone have an enjoyable show by following a few
Guidelines:

Bedding: Exhibitors must furnish wood chips for the bedding of animals.

Bedding must be commercial wood chips


No straw allowed in the barns.

Pen Assignments: Pens will be pre-assigned. Pens are 5’ and 6’ and there
MUST be at least two pigs per pen. You can bring your own panels and split
the pens if you want.

Generators: Must be kept outside of the barns.

Health Requirements: All swine must have a negative pseudorabies test
After December 1, 2010 and they must be presented at the time of entry.

Release: All animals are released as soon as they are through showing.

New Breeds to any species show can be exhibited with confirmed sponsorship and
one year prior approval.

Animals must be in place at the time weights are due. No Call in Weights.

Loading and Unloading – Livestock will be loaded and unloaded in designated
Livestock barn areas only.

All judges decisions are final – No protests.

Changes for 2012
 
There will be a breed for Char. colored heifers.

Market Wethers

Entry Fee is $23 per head.
Lambs must have been nominated for OYE to be eligible to show.
All breeds with a sponsor will be represented.
Breeds represented and show order will be: Southdown,
Shrop, Dorset, Speckled Face, Hamp, Suffolk, Natural, and Cross.
There will be a 5 pound weigh back from the top of the class.
Weigh back top 3 of each class.
Weight cards are due in the office by 10:00 a.m. Wed. Feb. 15
Wethers will begin showing after the ewe show.
There will be no classes of more than 16 head.
No Paint Allowed in Sheep Show.

Market Ewes

Entry Fee is $23 per head
Lambs must have been nominated for OYE to be eligible to show.
There will be no breed representation in the market ewe show.
All ewes will compete as one breed and classes broke according to weight.
There will be a 5 pound weigh back from the top of the class.
Weigh back the top 3 of each class.
Weight cards for ewes are due Wed. Feb. 15, 9:00 a.m.
Ewe show will begin at 11:00 a.m. followed by the wethers
There will be no classes of more than 16 head.
No Paint Allowed in the Sheep Show.

Prospect Steers

Entry fee is $33 per head.
To be eligible, must weigh 1000 pounds or less.
Breeds represented and show order will be: Angus,
Hereford, Shorthorn, and AOB.
All four breeds will be represented regardless of numbers.
Steers will be weighed in from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on
Wed. Feb. 15. There will be no weigh back in class.
No Glue Rule will be allowed at this year’s show.

Heifers

Entry fee is $33 per head
All breeds with a sponsor will be exhibited.
There will be a Grand and Reserve Grand Heifer selected.
Show order will be alphabetical.
Heifer Papers must be presented to the office Wed. Feb. 15 by 5:00 p.m.
The following breeds have sponsors and will be
represented: Angus, Chianina, Hereford, Limousin,
Maine-Anjou, Maintainer, Red Angus, Shorthorn, Shorthorn Select, Simmental, and AOB.
All heifers must have registration papers with the exception of Commercial heifers, which must have
registration papers or a breeder’s verification of parentage, exhibitor’s name, and birth date.

Commercial heifers will be shown with the AOB heifers.
No Glue Rule will be allowed at this year’s show.

Market Steers

Entry fee is $33 per head
Weights will be 1001 pounds and up.
Breeds represented and show order will be: Angus,
Hereford, Shorthorn, and AOB.
All four breeds will be represented regardless of numbers.
Steers will be weighed in from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. on
Wed. Feb. 15. There will be no weigh back in class.
Steers must have been nominated for OKC show to be eligible.
No Glue Rule will be allowed at this year’s show.

New Breeds in any species show can be exhibited with confirmed sponsorship one year prior to the show

Market Goats

Entry fee is $23 per head
All goats must have been nominated for OYE to be eligible to show.
There will be a 5 lb. weigh back from the top of the class.
Weigh back the top three in each class
Weigh cards are due in the office by 10:00 a.m. Wed. Feb. 15.
Market Goat show will begin immediately following the Doe goats.

There will be 3 division Champions and Reserves competing for Grand and Res.

Bracing goats is the option of the exhibitor.

 

Goat Does

Entry fee is $23 per head
All does must have been nominated for OYE or provide
registration papers to be eligible to show.
There will be a 5 lb. weigh back from the top of the class.
Weigh cards are due in the office by 9:00 a.m. Wed.

There will be 3 division Champions and Reserves competing for Grand and Res.

Bracing goats is the option of the exhibitor.

Breeding Gilts

Swine Exhibitors must have a premise I.D. number.

Entry fee is $23 per head
Registration papers and weights for commercial gilts are due in the office by 10:00 a.m. Friday, Feb.18.
Gilts will show separate from barrows on Fri. Feb. 17 at
1:00 p.m. Gilts will show as Breeding Gilts.
All swine must have a negative pseudorabies test after
Dec. 1, 2010. Pseudo papers must be presented at time of entry.
All swine must have been nominated for the OYE to be eligible to show.
Purebred gilts show order will be: Berk,
Chester, Duroc, Hamp, Poland, Spot, and York. Purebred gilt classes
will be broke by age. Purebred gilts born between August 1 and
September 30 are eligible to show.
Commercial gilt classes will be broke by weight.
All purebred gilts must have pedigrees and/or proof of transfer to be eligible to show as purebreds. Gilts without pedigrees may show in the commercial class. The decision of the Swine Supt. is final.
All commercial gilts must weigh within 10 lbs. of the 200-325 weight range. No gilts weighing less that 190 will be permitted to show.
All purebred champions and the commercial champion will compete
for overall Grand Champion Gilt.
All commercial gilts must weigh within 10 lbs. from the top of the class.
Will weigh back the top three in each class.
Not more than 25 head per class.

Market Barrows

Swine Exhibitors must have a premise I.D. number.

Entry fee is $23 per head.
All swine must have a negative pseudorabies test after
Dec. 1, 2010. Pseudo papers must be presented at time of entry.
All swine must have been nominated for OYE to be eligible to show.
All barrows must weigh within 10 lbs. of the 200-280 weight range.
No barrows weighing less than 190 will be permitted to show.
Breeds represented and show order: Berk, Chester, Duroc, Hamp,
Poland, Spot, York, and Crossbred.
Weigh back will be 10 pounds from the top of the class.
Weigh cards for the Berks and Chesters are due 1:00 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 17. The Berks and Chesters will show 30 from the conclusion of the gilt show.
Weigh back the top three in each class.
Not more than 25 head per class.

10:00 a.m. Market Wether and Market Goat cards due in office
11:00 a.m. Market Ewe show begins followed by the wethers
11:00 a.m. Doe Goats begin followed by the Market Goats
3:00 – 5:00 p.m. Weigh steers – check heifer papers in office

Thursday, February 16

9:00 a.m. Cattle show begins – Prospect Steers, Market Steers, Heifers

Swine will be allowed in barns 1 hour after the completion of the cattle show.

Friday, February 17

Barns open for swine (NO swine allowed on grounds beforeFriday morning)

10:00 a.m. Gilt cards due in the office

1:00 p.m. Gilt show begins
1:00 p.m. Berk, Chester, and Spot Barrow cards due in the office
(Berk, Chester, and Spot Barrows will show Friday, 30 minutes after the conclusion of the gilt show.)
5:00 p.m. Remaining Barrow weigh cards are due in the office
(Duroc, Hamp, Polands, Yorks, and Crosses)



Saturday, February 18
